This is a very good collection of Grand Funk music. I have listened to their music since the seventies. There are a few other songs I would love to have seen on here as well but it is still very good. I really liked some of the newer songs as well. They were my favorite band of that time. There 2nd album is probably my favorite overall.
What a great compilation of songs. I love the live versions, especially Inside Looking Out (which is about 15 minutes long). It is missing some much wanted songs (Hooked on Love, All the Girls in the World Beware & TNUC) but it is a great set for any Grand Funk fan. The packaging & booklet inside are an extra bonus.
I normally depend on Amazon to be the leader in low prices -- particulary in music. I was very disappointed in their pricing of this 3-disk box set since Barnes & Nobel has the same set for $7 less.
Here you have it: the most complete collection of songs by the only band that ever blew Led Zeppelin off the stage. The only disappointment to GFR fans would be the absence of "T.N.U.C." from the band's first album, "On Time". Presented here is a compiling of all of the band's hits, along with fan favorites and rare cuts, such as a sixteen minute-long live performance of The Animals' "Inside Looking Out". All of Mark Farner's epic intuitive songs, like "I'm Your Captain", "Loneliness", and "Heartbreaker" have been remastered and sound as fresh as ever. Otherwise, however, the anthology has got it all, from the band's early days as "The Pack", to their early hard rock/heavy metal/blues rock work, to when they went commercial and degraded their quality. Personal favorites are "I'm Your Captain", "Loneliness", "Inside Looking Out", "Gimme Shelter", "Sin's a Good Man's Brother", "Heartbreaker", and so many more.
Grand Funk has always been a favorite of mine. Why this band's body of work (along with Badfinger) continues to be shunned and not taken seriously by the powers that be never ceases to mystify me, and this collection backs up my view (can you hear me, Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame ). What they lacked in their early recordings they made up for with their instinctual soul and groove. They finally hit their stride in the mid 70s and put out some great music. Any fan of straight-forward, melodic rock'n'roll should have a copy. Highly recommended.
